When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."

TCA Announces Chiropractor of the Year Award
The Tennessee Chiropractic Association (TCA) presented Dr. James Messimer with its 1992 Chiropractor of the Year award. The award was given in recognition of Dr. Messimer's dedication to his patients, service to his community, and efforts to insure health care legislation, such as recent workers' compensation revisions.
Dr. Messimer has been active in the community, having served as president of the TCA, chairman of the Mountain Empire Chapter of the American Red Cross, president and chairman of the board of Bristol-Sullivan Co. Jaycees, and as a member of the board of directors for both the Boys Club of America and the Bristol Host Lyons Club. He is currently serving on the board of directors of the Hands On Regional Museum and is chairman of the Sullivan County Democratic Party.
Dr. Messimer said he was honored to receive the award and accepted it on behalf of his patients: "It is for them we practice; they have made chiropractic the fastest growing health care profession in the country." Noting that the chiropractic profession has come a long way since he began practicing, Dr. Messimer said: "It is my dream for the future that doctors of all disciplines will work together unselfishly for the good of our patients."
