New York's highest court of appeals has held that no-fault insurers cannot deny no-fault benefits where they unilaterally determine that a provider has committed misconduct based upon alleged fraudulent conduct. The Court held that this authority belongs solely to state regulators, specifically New York's Board of Regents, which oversees professional licensing and discipline. This follows a similar recent ruling in Florida reported in this publication.
CCE Releases Draft of Revised Accreditation Standards for Review and Comment
As part of the ongoing process to revise its accreditation standards, the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) invites interested parties to submit written comments regarding the first draft of the revised CCE Accreditation Standards Principles & Requirements for Accreditation, and the accompanying CCE Meta-Competencies Policy and Guidelines for DCP Assessment of Meta-Competencies. The draft standards can be viewed by visiting the CCE Web site, where a link to the draft document is located.
To provide feedback or propose modifications to the draft standards, please click on the link labeled "Draft Standards Comments" on the CCE homepage. Comments must be received by the CCE Administrative Office by Nov. 4, 2009, addressed to the attention of Lee Van Dusen, President, Council on Chiropractic Education, at the address, fax number, or e-mail address shown below.
The draft standards and meta-competencies are the result of significant efforts by the CCE Task Force on Accreditation Standards Improvement. The task force, chaired by G. Lansing Blackshaw, PhD, first met in July of 2006. Membership of the task force included individuals with professional experiences in chiropractic and non-chiropractic health sciences education, accreditation, chiropractic professional organizations, and chiropractic licensure and regulation.
During the draft standards development process, the task force reviewed the accreditation standards of several doctoral-level health care professional programs along with standards from regional accrediting organizations. In addition, the task force held informational meetings with a variety of academic, professional organizations, and regulatory stakeholder groups to provide opportunities for interactions with representatives of the task force.
Following the Nov. 4 deadline for comments, all received materials will be reviewed by the CCE Council and approved modifications will be made to produce the next draft. The second draft will be available for public review and comment in 2010.
Persons or organizations not having access to the CCE Web site may contact the CCE Administrative Office to obtain additional information. Those seeking further information regarding the draft standards and this process should contact the administrative office at:
