Because they have yet to pass national legislation protecting the chiropractic profession, Japanese DCs are in a similar situation that U.S. DCs faced. We were fortunate enough to be able to pass chiropractic licensure state by state. The DCs in Japan must accomplish this nationally, which has proved to be an extremely difficult task. And in spite of their efforts, Japanese DCs are currently faced with two chiropractic professions.
Dr. Michael Simone Elected Chairman of the American Chiropractic Association
On May 2, 2012, the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) announced that Michael Simone, DC, CCSP, FICC, of Dacono, Colo., has been elected chairman of the Board of Governors (BOG). Dr. Simon succeeds Dr. Robert Mastronardi, who passed away in April.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as ACA chairman," said Dr. Simone. "Our nation's health care system is changing, so it's more important than ever to fight for patients' ability to choose the health care provider that is right for them – including doctors of chiropractic, who offer a cost-effective, drug-free approach to good health."
In addition to his role as chairman of the BOG, Dr. Simone is chairman of the association's Finance Committee and Investment Committee, and represents a nine-state region on the board.
Dr. Simone is also a member of ACA's Sports Council, having completed a one-year postgraduate certification program in sports medicine and passed a rigorous national board examination. He is designated as a certified chiropractic sports physician by the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians.
In 2007, Dr. Simone was inducted into the International College of Chiropractors as a "Fellow," one of the most prestigious awards in the chiropractic profession. In his home state, he is a former Executive Board member of the Colorado Chiropractic Association, and currently volunteers teaching anatomy at Fort Lupton School Districts' Core Knowledge K-8 Quest Academy in Dacono.
Dr. Simone has also worked on behalf of his community as the mayor of Firestone, Colo., and as a member of the Parks and Trails Committee and Planning Commission. He currently serves on the Ft. Lupton, Colo. Planning Commission.
Dr. Simone received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree magna cum laude from Logan College of Chiropractic in 1986. He has been in private practice in Colorado since 1999.
"I am grateful to have this opportunity to work with Dr. Simone as part of ACA's Executive Committee," said ACA President Dr. Keith Overland. "He brings a wealth of clinical and legislative experience to the table, and I know that he will be a tremendous asset to our efforts to improve patient access to chiropractic care."
