When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
News in Brief
Chiropractic Documentary Wins Award
“The Aligned Athlete,” a documentary by filmmaker / digital sports media producer Jordan Gorman, received the January 2023 Platinum Award for Best Documentary Short courtesy of the Independent Shorts Awards. Per Jordan (whose father is Dr. Richard Gorman, a pioneer in sports chiropractic):
“The Aligned Athlete tells the historic story of how chiropractic became an integral part of professional sports and how chiropractic can improve not only the health and lives of Olympic athletes, but everyday individuals, as well. Featured in this film are 8 sports chiropractors and 10 world-class track and field athletes, who have won a combined 8 Olympic and 29 World Championship gold medals.”
Jordan also provided insight into his motivation for making the documentary:
“I chose to take on this endeavor because growing up in a chiropractic family, I know the impact that chiropractic can have on your health and overall life. Also, wanted to make this film for my dad, who has had such a tremendous impact on sports chiropractic. I grew up getting to see him treat some of the best athletes in the world and to me he’s always been a super hero, so wanted to show the world how powerful chiropractic can be.”
