When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Chiropractic Commercial Airs on CNN
A 30-second commercial promoting chiropractic for older adults aired twice during CNN's television premiere of "American Pain" on Feb. 5. Developed by the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress, the commercial "features Mavis, an 89-year-old woman who lives an independent and healthy lifestyle thanks to chiropractic care. The call to action is ‘visit your chiropractor,' leading viewers to F4CP's National Find-A-Doctor Directory."
("Mavis" is none other than Mavis Petersen, wife of Dynamic Chiropractic's founder, Donald Petersen Sr.)
That the commercial aired twice on CNN is a huge victory for chiropractic in its ongoing efforts to educate the public on the benefits of chiropractic. That it aired during "American Pain," which details one of the largest opioid trafficking operations in U.S. history and the widespread damage it caused, is perhaps even more significant in positioning chiropractic as a preferred choice for pain relief and prevention – particularly with seniors.
"American Pain" was produced by Motto Pictures, Muck Media and Fishbowl Films for CNN Films and HBO Max, in association with TIME Studios. Per CNN Creative Marketing:
"American Pain traces the rise and fall of Floridians Chris and Jeff George, identical twins who trafficked more than $500 million in opioid pills in the United States. In just a few short years of operation, the Georges created one of the largest opioid pill mill empires in the nation, attracting clients from around the country.
"Weaving together hundreds of hours of FBI wiretap recordings, undercover videos, and exclusive jailhouse interviews with the twins themselves, this fast-paced thriller traces the Georges' rise and fall, corruption and violence, which ultimately led to the ruin of scores of lives, including their own."
Millions of television viewers learning about the dangers of opioids and the lifelong benefits of chiropractic care – another major step in the right direction for the profession. You can watch the commercial (and share it with your patients) at https://www.f4cp.org/naturally/.
Notes
• As could only be expected, Big Pharma made its presence felt during “American Pain”; eight pharmaceutical ads ran during the Feb. 5 premiere – albeit none touting pain-relief medications.
