When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Chiropractor Helping Save a Division 1 Track Program
Roy M. Love, DC, FACO, is spearheading a movement to save the University of North Carolina Wilmington's Division I men's and women's' track teams, set to be eliminated for the 2015-16 season. Olympic sports are at risk at many universities. SaveUNCWtrack has been challenged to raise $250,000 by the UNCW administration by May 31, 2015 to save the track program. As of April 24, more than $151,000 already has been raised.
Track on the high-school, college and Olympic level has benefitted from sports chiropractic, and chiropractic has always helped athletes perform at their highest levels. Track launched our recognition as capable sports medicine team participants, as reflected by the current number of U.S. Olympic chiropractors.
Please help save the Division I track program from elimination at UNCW. Very few NCAA Division I programs have been saved once considered for elimination. Make a donation today, no matter how small or large; it will make an impact and a statement that the chiropractic profession supports the sport of track, field and cross-country. The many opportunities track avails to diverse men and women athletes participating together to reach their personal best is too important not to be saved.
