When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Canadian Chiropractic Association Welcomes New Executive Director
Dr. John Corrigan, president of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Alison Dantas as executive director of the CCA effective Sept. 4, 2012.
Ms. Dantas joins the CCA following an exemplary advocacy and management career in not-for-profit professional health care associations, including positions as the executive director of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors and the Association of Ontario Midwives. She has obtained valuable experiences in government (Ombudsman Ontario), social services (Community Social Planning Council of Toronto), community involvement (Peel Rape Crisis Centre), and social housing (Peel Living).
Ms. Dantas is the recipient of awards from the Canadian Society of Association Executives and the Peel Institute. The Peel Rape Crisis Centre honoured her with its Remarkable Woman Award for significant contributions toward ending violence against women and children. She has held numerous voluntary positions in a wide variety of educational, social, religious and fundraising groups for over 20 years.
The CCA Executive Director Search Committee worked for a period of six months with a professional search consultant to identify candidates with the requisite background and skills for the CCA to successfully achieve its programs of member services, government and inter-professional relations, research, advocacy, communications and internal provincial relations. Following a period of candidate presentations and interviews, Ms. Dantas was the committee's unanimous choice for recommendation to the CCA Board of Governors. She had the opportunity to meet and address the CCA Board of Governors, which subsequently confirmed the recommendation of the search committee.
Ms. Dantas is looking forward to undertaking the responsibilities of her position, meeting with members and provinces, and contributing her skills to the success of the association. Please join the CCA Board of Governors in welcoming her to the CCA.
