New York's highest court of appeals has held that no-fault insurers cannot deny no-fault benefits where they unilaterally determine that a provider has committed misconduct based upon alleged fraudulent conduct. The Court held that this authority belongs solely to state regulators, specifically New York's Board of Regents, which oversees professional licensing and discipline. This follows a similar recent ruling in Florida reported in this publication.
Northwestern Gets Another Major Grant From William Harris Foundation
Northwestern Health Sciences University has received an additional $500,000 grant from the William M. Harris Family Foundation, extending a 2005 five-year gift. The funds will bring the university closer to completing the $8 million cash portion of the "Imagine Our Future" capital campaign.
The newly pledged gift will be paid over five years, with the grant stipulating that each $100,000 distribution must be matched with funds raised by the university.
Donations from the Harris Family Foundation are part of the "Imagine Our Future" capital campaign, which funded the Wolfe-Harris Center for Excellence building addition, including the Wolfe-Harris Center for Clinical Studies research center.
"We are extremely grateful to the Harris Foundation," said Mark Zeigler, DC, president of Northwestern, "and their continued generous support of this institution and the chiropractic profession."
The late William Harris, DC, was a longtime benefactor of Northwestern. He generously donated $1 million for the construction of the Wolfe-Harris Center for Clinical Studies; a $200,000 grant to fund a chair in business and practice management; as well as the initial $500,000 donation to help fund the Wolfe-Harris Center for Excellence.
Dr. Harris understood that a good education requires research and continuing advancement in the field. According to Dr. Zeigler, "Northwestern needed the ability to invest in research, and because of Dr. Harris' initial gift, we have been able to expand our campus to sustain a research facility that has been critical to our profession."
