When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Parker College Provides Chiropractic at Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure
Parker College of Chiropractic provided chiropractic care during the Dallas / Fort Worth Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure, in which more than 2,700 walkers participated to raise money for breast cancer research and community programs. This marked the sixth consecutive year that Parker has served as the official chiropractic partner.
The walk began Friday, Nov. 5 and over the course of three days, the participants walked 60 miles. Covering 20 miles a day, the walkers spent two nights in tents. Numerous adjustments were given during the walk by Parker College students and faculty. They also assisted with making ice bags, caring for blisters, taping sprained ankles, knees, and more.
After losing his grandmother to breast cancer, Parker Tri-Nine student Reon Bailey felt it was important to get involved in the three-day event in order to provide support to those in the walk.
"I was glad to be that relief for people during the walk," said Bailey. "Most of them were tired and I wanted to use my skills to make their day a little brighter through chiropractic. Chiropractic care has a personal touch to healing people, which is one of the things I like most about it."
Student volunteers in addition to Bailey included Matt Adams, William Austin, Zachery Bernard, Eric Fierro, Briana Flavill, Mandy Jairell, Marisa Marquis, Zach Petter, Mark Scott, Meghann Sherman, Nguyen T. To, Drew Trimmier, Eric Widhelm, and Shawn Wilson. Faculty doctors also assisted, including Dr. Scott Kopazna, Dr. Tom Leon, Dr. Rindy Matthews, Dr. Sandra Norton, Dr. Eric Pearce, and Dr. David Walters.
