Historic Media Exposure for Chiropractic

Editorial Staff

The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (FCP) took another significant step in its ongoing campaign the educate the public about the benefits of chiropractic care in August when no less than three major national publications - The Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated and Working Mother - featured pro-chiropractic foundation advertisements. The positive testimonials all ran the week of Aug. 16, marking the first time foundation spots have appeared concurrently (within the same week) in publications with such wide exposure, allowing the FCP's message to be heard by millions.

The Aug. 17, 2010 issue of The Wall Street Journal featured the FCP advertisement congratulating foundation spokesperson Jerry Rice on his recent induction into the National Football League (NFL) Hall of Fame and sharing his positive testimonial about chiropractic. The ad appeared on page 14A of the WSJ.

The same Jerry Rice ad/testimonial that ran in the WSJ also ran in selected issues of the Aug. 23, 2010 issue of Sports Illustrated. According to the foundation, this issue should be particularly well-read because it is "one of the first SI issues of the year focusing on the upcoming football season." The ad appeared in every other issue the magazine distributes - a total of 1.5 million subscribers. The FCP was able to negotiate a 90 percent reduction in the standard publication ad cost, which it believes justified the reduced SI circulation.

And the August/September 2010 issue of Working Mother featured the foundation's advertisement touting the importance of chiropractic care for pregnant women. The ad, which includes a testimonial from an OB/GYN specialist, appeared on page 57 of the Aug/Sept issue.
