When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Is There a Chiropractor in the House?
How does one measure the importance of having the first doctor of chiropractic in the U.S. Congress? It can be likened to the first woman in Congress or the first of any minority to hold such a position.
In short, it is nothing less than groundbreaking.
David Langheier, DC, is willing to take his shot at being the first doctor of chiropractic in Congress. He is spending considerable amounts of his own money and time to represent this profession in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is in a district where the winner of the primary will almost assuredly be the winner of the election.
There are plenty of reasons to support Dave in his race. The primary one is that he would lend a chiropractic perspective to every decision made by Congress. When other congressional representatives faced a decision regarding health care, they would get more than just the medical viewpoint; they would finally get our viewpoint.
For those concerned about Dave's philosophical perspective, please read the interview beginning on the front page of this issue. ("Mr. Langheier Goes to Washington: Florida DC Running for Congress.") As you can see, Dave enjoys support from both sides of the chiropractic philosophical aisle.
For those concerned with his politics, I have to say that I think the chiropractic issue supersedes whether Dave is a Democrat or a Republican. I support him either way.
My desire is to see a doctor of chiropractic in Congress. Once the first DC is there, others can follow. So, I have just one request of you:
Please support David Langheier, DC
Please consider Dave your candidate, even if, like me, you don't live in his district. Please support him financially. He is our candidate for Congress. The importance of this opportunity cannot be underestimated, nor can the impact his election could have on the role of chiropractic in shaping national health care policy.
Make a donation of $100 or more so that Dave has the support he needs to be the first doctor of chiropractic in the House.
