A Briefing on Developments in Holistic Cancer Therapy -- Part I

Kurt W. Donsbach, DC

This article is in response to the many requests I have had from doctors to update them on how cancer treatment is approached from a holistic viewpoint. The following is obviously an outline, since an in-depth look at all the therapies would fill a book.

In general, our approach is to use all therapies that we have found that help inhibit the replication of cancerous cells. It is great public relations to talk about stimulating the immune system, but frankly, many of the patients we see are far beyond waiting for a sluggish immune system to get back on track. Most of our patients have days, weeks, or a few months at most to live when they arrive. They usually have tried surgery, chemotherapy and radiation -- all of which have failed. We constantly wonder how well we could really do if we were able to treat patients before standard treatment. At the present time, our records would indicate that 70 percent of our patients are alive two years after treatment. To put this in proper perspective, one must remember their prognosis on arrival.

We will look at each major treatment we use, and give you a short explanation of the influence it exerts upon the body.

Oxygen -- Ozone

We use hydrogen peroxide intravenously and orally to increase the oxidation reduction mechanism in the body. We also use a special humidified ozone introduced through rectal insufflation. There are several mechanisms by which oxygen (both hydrogen peroxide and ozone end up increasing the total oxygen in the system) exerts a negative effect on the cancer cell. Dr. Otto Warburg alerted us to the fact that a cancerous cell is basically anaerobic in nature. In vivo, studies have shown significant decrease in lactate content of cancerous cells when ozone has been introduced to the body. This indicates direct inhibition of the tumor metabolism, since excess lactate is produced in an active cancer cell. In vitro, studies have shown the same with attendant reduction in growth. In fact, a comparative study using ozone as compared to commonly used cytotoxic drugs demonstrated that the ozone treated patients had as much negative effect on the tumor cells as the cytotoxics, but without any negative effect on normal cells. The major drawback of conventional cytotoxic drugs is the short time they may be used before they have destroyed a majority of healthy cells. Oxygen therapy does not have this side effect and can be used for long periods of time.

Carbatine is a combination of carbamide and creatine which was brought to my attention through the writings of Wayne Martin, a lay cancer expert. This therapy was discovered by Dr. E.D. Danopoulos of Greece. The treatment was originally only for liver cancer, but demonstrated a remarkable effect on many other forms of this disease. The basic action is to break the hydrophobic bonds which hold cancer cells together in a mass. When this bond is broken, the cells are vulnerable to destruction by the immune system or any other anti-carcinogenic substance. We are very enthusiastic about this natural remedy.

OncoTox is an organic compound which was introduced to us by a doctor from Costa Rica. It is truly the best immune system stimulant we have yet found. Natural killer cell production is increased tremendously and is an extremely important component in defense against all forms of cancer. In flow cytometric determinations OncoTox was shown to prevent tumor cells from proliferating and were shown to inhibit mitosis. In a controlled study comparing the effect of OncoTox and a placebo on HL-60 cancer cells, OncoTox clearly demonstrated inhibition of tumor growth and mitosis in only four days, the placebo showed no effect. This worthwhile product is given for a short time by intramuscular injection; after that it can be used orally.

Your briefing continues next month, as I explore developments in laetrile, cesium chloride, carcelim cream, and hydrazine sulfate.
