New York's highest court of appeals has held that no-fault insurers cannot deny no-fault benefits where they unilaterally determine that a provider has committed misconduct based upon alleged fraudulent conduct. The Court held that this authority belongs solely to state regulators, specifically New York's Board of Regents, which oversees professional licensing and discipline. This follows a similar recent ruling in Florida reported in this publication.
Virginia Association Changes Name
The former Tidewater Chiropractic Association, headquartered in Hampton Roads, Virginia, was renamed Hampton Roads Chiropractic Association (HRCA) during a recent monthly membership meeting. The HRCA designed and adopted a new logo as well.
The new name is an accurate geographic description of the HRCA's service area. The association's members practice in a region that stretches from Virginia Beach to Williamsburg.
HRCA president Robert B. Thoma, D.C. announced that the association has named Brickell & Associates as its public relations agency. Brickell & Associates is a Norfolk-based agency which represents Virginia as a partner in The WORLDCOM Group, Inc., the world's largest network of independent public relations agencies.
The HRCA's public relations efforts will emphasize and promote educational advancement of its own members and the community through internal initiatives and programs for the general public.
