International Chiropractic Congress, South Africa

The organizers of the first International Chiropractic Congress are expecting a large contingent of chiropractors from all over the world to converge on the resort city of Sun City, South Africa, October 10-16, 1993.

"We are extremely proud to be hosting this year's event and would like to assure potential delegates that the Congress will be of top international standard and that we have laid on an exciting and varied program," said Congress Chairman Dr. Willem Boshoff.

The Congress is being organized under the auspices of the Chiropractic Association of South Africa, and is endorsed by the World Federation of Chiropractic. CCE license renewal credits are being sponsored by National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois.

Sun City is an ambitious $350 million resort developed by Sol Kerzner and palatially designed by California architects. It comprises three hotels, a theme park (Lost City), a casino, lakes, waterfalls, and tropical gardens.

Sun City is located 100 miles (160 km) north of Johannesburg in the Valley of the Sun, formerly called the Valley of the Ancients, once the site of a tribal palace and city lost to the ages. The region today is part of Bophuthatswana, one of the regional "homelands" designated by the South African government as independent.

The international delegates to the Congress will convene at the Sun City Conference Centre at The Palace Sunday Oct. 10, where they will receive an official welcome from Dr. Geoffery Tasker, president of the Chiropractic Association of South Africa, and Dr. N.C.O.B. Khaole, Minister of Health of Boputhatswana.

"Your Spine in Time," will be the theme of the Congress, boasting internationally respected speakers presenting the very latest research findings. The eminent speakers include:

Delegates will have the added pleasure of knowing that their attendance will advance chiropractic in Southern Africa: proceeds will go towards sponsoring the fledgling South African Chiropractic College, Technikon Witwatersrand (see the next issue of "DC" for an article on South Africa's two chiropractic colleges).

"We have compiled a truly memorable programme which will cater for all tastes," said Mrs. Pat Furno, member of the organizing committee. There will be a comprehensive spouses' program and several evenings' entertainment at Sun City.

The Congress will be a marvelous opportunity to stay abreast of international chiropractic trends, but the delegates will also have the opportunity to answer the call of the wild.
