Because they have yet to pass national legislation protecting the chiropractic profession, Japanese DCs are in a similar situation that U.S. DCs faced. We were fortunate enough to be able to pass chiropractic licensure state by state. The DCs in Japan must accomplish this nationally, which has proved to be an extremely difficult task. And in spite of their efforts, Japanese DCs are currently faced with two chiropractic professions.

New Preceptorship Program
To provide comprehensive clinical and academic experience in chiropractic education, Palmer West has developed a new preceptorship requirement for potential graduates: Student interns will be required to have a three month internship in a practicing chiropractor's office. Interns will be given the opportunity to preceptor with doctors who specialize in the student's particular field of interest, such as family practice, geriatrics, sports, etc.
Three days a week, interns can refine their diagnostic, adjustment, and case management skills while getting an insight into routine office management procedures.
The interns will receive state board exam preparation, and will attend practice development seminars that focus on topics vital to achieving future practice success. Following each weekly seminar, interns attend clinical conference sessions in small discussion groups chaired by one of the Palmer West faculty doctors or one of the participating doctors from the field internship program. Interns will report on their experiences and what they have observed in the offices, adding insights into how other offices are managed.
PCCW will also provide a graduate placement program that will identify job opportunities for PCCW graduates throughout California and possibly in other states.
Field doctors who participate in the preceptorship program will be regarded as Palmer West adjunct faculty members and, under some circumstances, receive continuing education credit. Palmer West will provide them with information, support, and training on issues involved in intern education.
