While there may be no “magic bullet” when it comes to health, this should not dissuade patients or practitioners from seeking out ingredients that offer multiple health benefits. When it comes to dietary supplements, there are thousands upon thousands of choices. So, why not choose one that can address pain and assist with mental health? A supplement that can address inflammation, while also preventing certain types of cancer.
| Digital ExclusiveDCs Provide Care for Basketball Pros
Drs. Kevin Paustian and Michael McNulty of the Palmer College chiropractic clinics are team chiropractors for the Quad-City Thunder, a member of the Continental Basketball Association. This is Dr. Paustian's first year with the Thunder, and Dr. McNulty's second.
"Many of the players are familiar with and use chiropractic care," said Dr. Paustian, who is also a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP). The Thunder players will also have access to the rehabilitative equipment in Palmer's ancillary procedures department. Dr. Paustian said that he emphasizes to the players that most athletes find they have increased speed, strength, and coordination when they are regular chiropractic patients.
Research Begins at Pennsylvania College
Under the direction of Dr. Stephen Marini and 8th trimester student Jeffrey Sorkin, an extensive multi-student scientific literature research project has begun in the chiropractic studies department of Pennsylvania College of Straight Chiropractic. The project, "Bioscientific Documentation Basis for Chiropractic Clinical Practice and Narrative Development Procedures," will entail compilation of approximately 2,000 refereed journal articles and reference sources in terms of neurological, musculoskeletal, physiological, biomechanical, histopathological, and vitalistic components.
The chronological scope of this project will focus on the past 20 years with selected readings from previous years that appear to be historically significant. The journals reviewed will be international in scope. The research project is currently calling for articles which DCs have found particularly important, and eventually the total package will be electronically scanned for database call-up to be made available this April.

Adjusting Skydivers -- Watch that First Step, It's a Doozy
Dr. Michael Mythen has been invited to travel with the US Skydiving team to Chengdu, China for the World Championships of Skydiving, May 21 -- June 7, 1994. Dr. Mythen, a skilled parachutist for over 31 years and a faculty member in PCC's technique department, was asked to be a chiropractor for the team after meeting some of the competitors at the World Championships last June when he himself competed. Since he was the only chiropractor in attendance, he ended up caring for every competitor who became a member of the team.
"Many of the skydivers have shoulder and cervical problems from constantly throwing the parachutes or 'riggings' on," said Dr. Mythen. "But some of the skydivers also have chronic problems from former parachuting mishaps." Dr. Mythen reported that last year he did a lot of muscle and extremities work on team members, and anticipates the necessity for the same type of treatment at the 1994 competition.
