Chiropractic at the Duathlon World Championship

Dr. Josh Dubin of Quincy, Massachusetts has been named to the TEAM USA medical staff for the ITU Duathlon World Championship in Sweden this July. As the only chiropractor on the medical team, Dr. Dubin will assist runners and bikers in the treatment and prevention of injuries during the 10-day event.

The duathlon consists of a 74-mile bike race (120 kilometers) and an 18.6 mile run (30 kilometers). The sport has increased in popularity to the point that it will be included in the 2000 Summer Olympics at Sydney, Australia.

A marathon runner himself, Dr. Dubin is well aware of the physical requirements for the athletes and the injuries that can occur in such an event. "The training for an event like this is extremely intense," said Dr. Dubin. "Runners and bikers frequently encounter problems with their upper necks, mid-backs, hips and ankles. I am thrilled to have the chance to participate in this international event and help work with athletes on preventive measures, as well as to help treat those who need it."
