When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Al Gore Supports Chiropractic
The American Chiropractic Association recently submitted a questionnaire to each of the officially-declared presidential candidates. The gist of the questionnaire, according to Dr. James Mertz, president of the ACA, was "to be sure that the next president of the United States - no matter who it is - is aware of and supports a variety of chiropractic legislative issues."
Thus far, the only presidential candidate still in the race who has responded to the ACA is Al Gore. A copy of Al Gore's letter to the ACA follows. (Editor's note: The ACA has not endorsed any candidate.)

American Chiropractic Association 1701 Clarendon Boulevard Arlington, VA 22209 By Facsimile (703) 243-2593 Dear Chiropractic Friends: I am pleased to have this opportunity to address members of the third largest health care profession in our nation. You do critically important work. I know many people who have been helped by their chiropractors to return to good health and be freed from pain. More and more Americans are turning to you for help. They know what I know - that more and more studies have shown chiropractic care is effective. As you may know, I have made access to affordable, quality health care a key issue in my campaign. And it will be a top priority from my first day in office should I be elected President. I'm committed to making sure that every child has health insurance and to providing coverage to millions of adults, with an ultimate goal of achieving universal coverage from every American. And, importantly, I'm committed to making sure that Americans have access to a full range of quality health care services. Today, too many health plans and HMOs don't provide access to needed chiropractic care. That's why I feel so strongly we should have a provider non-discrimination policy. And that's why I'm workings hard to pass a strong Patients' Bill of Rights. I'm pleased that we've made some progress recently in improving Medicare coverage of chiropractic care. As you know, countless older Americans rely on your services. I want to work with you as President to make sure they get the care they need and that Medicare is fair to the chiropractic profession. We have the best health care system in the world. And chiropractors are a vital part of that. I want to work with you to make it even better. Together we can make health care more accessible. Together we can made it more affordable. And together we can guarantee Americans the freedom of choice they want and deserve. National Headquarters Phone 615 340-2000 |
