Because they have yet to pass national legislation protecting the chiropractic profession, Japanese DCs are in a similar situation that U.S. DCs faced. We were fortunate enough to be able to pass chiropractic licensure state by state. The DCs in Japan must accomplish this nationally, which has proved to be an extremely difficult task. And in spite of their efforts, Japanese DCs are currently faced with two chiropractic professions.
WFC Orlando Congress - Speakers Confirmed for "Finest Cervical Spine Program Ever"
The World Federation of Chiropractics (WFC) Congress in Orlando, Fla., scheduled for May 1-3, 2003 and cosponsored by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) and International Chiropractors Association (ICA), is attracting DCs worldwide because of its exceptional program and location at Disney World.
"This is the finest all-around cervical spine program ever presented to doctors of chiropractic in North America," said Dr. Arthur Croft, director of the Spine Research Institute of San Diego, Calif. Dr. Croft is a leading expert in this field, and one of more than 60 speakers and technique instructors on the program, highlights of which include:
- a two-and-a-half-hour mock trial on cervical adjustment and the risk of stroke, chaired by Dr. Scott Haldeman and featuring attorneys and chiropractic and medical experts from the high-profile Lewis Inquest in Toronto, Ontario, Canada;
- as part of the pediatric cervical spine program, a workshop on upper cervical techniques for infants and children by U.S. chiropractor Dr. Joan Fallon and Belgian medical doctor Dr. Heiner Beidermann;
- "grand rounds" discussion of management of typical cervical spine cases by an interdisciplinary panel; and
- workshops and seminars by a "who's who" in chiropractic management of the cervical spine, including Drs. Bergman; Downes; Fuhr; Hammer; Hinson; Jacob; Leahy; Liebenson; Don Murphy; and Dan Murphy.
A second theme for the event, which has already been approved for 20 hours of continuing education (CE) credits in most states, is sports chiropractic. Practitioners from the U.S. and Canada with experience treating professional and Olympic athletes will conduct workshops on all aspects of sports chiropractic practice, including getting started; extremity adjusting; taping; helmet removal; managing coaches and elite athletes; and the Olympic experience.
Dr. Craig Liebenson, who will present a full-day seminar with Dr. Don Murphy on low-tech rehabilitation of the cervical spine in chiropractic practice, concurred with Dr. Croft about the importance of the upcoming meeting: "There has never been a meeting with this range, depth and practical value. I am telling everyone not to miss it."
