Chiropractic Physicians Appointed to New AMA Quality, Safety Committees

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) is pleased to announce that Christine Goertz, DC, PhD, and George B. McClelland, DC, have been appointed by the American Medical Association (AMA)-convened Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement (PCPI) to serve on two newly assembled committees designed to advance patient quality of care and safety.

Dr. Goertz, vice chancellor for research and health policy at Palmer College of Chiropractic and ACA research consultant, will serve on the Measure Advisory Committee (MAC), which will advise the PCPI Executive Committee on matters related to performance measures and support activities related to the PCPI measure development methodologies.

Dr. McClelland, past president of the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research, ACA's inaugural Delegate of the Year award winner (1997) and past ACA chairman of the Board of Governors, will serve on the Quality Improvement Advisory Committee (QIAC). The group will advise the PCPI Executive Committee on matters related to improving the quality, safety and efficiency of the health care delivery system and support activities related to the PCPI QI Program.

ACA was contacted by PCPI – which leads efforts in developing, testing and implementing evidence-based health care performance measures – and asked to nominate chiropractic physicians to serve on two new committees. Members of both groups will serve a term of three years for up to two terms.

"ACA nominated Drs. Goertz and McClelland, based on the depth of their contributions to academia, research and advocacy on behalf of the chiropractic profession," said ACA President Keith Overland, DC. "Delivering safe, high-quality health care to patients is what chiropractic services are all about, and I know that the doctors ACA nominated to serve on the new PCPI committees will bring our profession's much needed perspective to the group's efforts to better serve patients in need."
