Because they have yet to pass national legislation protecting the chiropractic profession, Japanese DCs are in a similar situation that U.S. DCs faced. We were fortunate enough to be able to pass chiropractic licensure state by state. The DCs in Japan must accomplish this nationally, which has proved to be an extremely difficult task. And in spite of their efforts, Japanese DCs are currently faced with two chiropractic professions.

Western States Announces New Degree Program
As of April 2012, the University of Western States will be offering a Master of Science in Nutrition and Functional Medicine. Alex Vasquez, DC, ND, DO, is responsible for program development and will also participate in its delivery, which will occur via a distance-learning format utilizing the university's online-learning management system.
Developed in collaboration with the Institute for Functional Medicine, the master's program consists of 50 quarter credits of graduate coursework (33 semester credits) and, according to Western States, is distinctive in that it "integrates standard clinical nutrition subject material with the systems biology approach of functional medicine."
FCP Acknowledges Top Two Corporate Sponsors
Foot Levelers, Inc., and Standard Process were recently recognized by the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress as the foundation's top corporate sponsors. Thus far, Foot Levelers' total contributions exceed $1.24 million, while Standard Process has donated nearly $570,000 to the cause.
"We've seen unprecedented success in communicating the benefits of chiropractic care and the importance of the profession," said Kent Greenawalt, president and CEO of Foot Levelers, and chairman of the FCP.
