When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Thayer Hotel at West Point Honors Foundation Spokesperson Rebecca Halstead
The Thayer Hotel at West Point, N.Y., will dedicate a room to distinguished West Point graduate, U.S. Army Brigadier General, Rebecca Halstead (Ret.), spokesperson for the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress, on Nov. 2, 2011. The ceremony will take place on hotel grounds beginning at 6 p.m. and will include a one-hour reception followed by an official dedication program. The Thayer Hotel, an historical landmark at the United States Military Academy located at West Point, N.Y., is offering 149 guest rooms and several common areas to graduates whose global and national accomplishments are well-deserving.
"I am humbled to my knees to accept a room at the Thayer Hotel to be decorated in my honor," said General Halstead, the first female West Point graduate in U.S. history to command at the strategic level in Iraq. "These rooms are amongst the most celebrated in the world, and I am privileged to be chosen to join and remain present in a place so significant to our nation's history."
The $25,000 room sponsorship not only supports the honorable achievements of Halstead, but will also financially support complete renovation of the room, including customized decor reflecting Halstead's significant contributions worldwide. Recognized for hosting five U.S. presidents, along with countless world leaders, the Thayer Hotel's dedicated rooms will embrace future occupants with a wealth of comfort, technological convenience and inspiration.
Halstead's acknowledged sponsor is the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress, though funding was specifically provided by the following companies: Foot Levelers, Standard Process, Performance Health, Northwestern Health Sciences University and Parker University. Halstead joins a distinguished roster of military heroes who will also be honored with rooms bearing their names, including General Douglas MacArthur, General Barry McCaffery and General Martin E. Dempsey.
Kent S. Greenawalt, Chairman, Foundation for Chiropractic Progress, shared his enthusiasm in helping to fund Halstead's room: "Rebecca's inspirational advocacy and long-term devotion to the chiropractic profession has proven her worthy of this heightened admiration. It is truly an honor to myself and all those involved to help carry out her remarkable legacy."
