DC Awarded Spine Research Fellowship

The International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine has awarded the 2011 MacNab LaRocca Fellowship to Dr. Chris Colloca, who received the $10,000 annual fellowship during the society's 38th annual meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden, in June.

According to a press release from the ISSLS, "The Fellowship will provide support for Dr. Colloca to travel later this year to Adelaide, Australia to collaborate with Robert J. Moore, PhD, to study intervertebral disc regeneration at the Adelaide Centre for Spinal Research in cooperation with the Institute for Medical and Veterinary Science, a division of the governmental authority South Australia Pathology. Dr. Colloca has published a number of scientific papers together with the orthopaedic team from Adelaide studying dynamic spinal stiffness assessments and biomechanical and neurophysiological responses to spinal manipulation."

Dr. Colloca, whose research has appeared in more than 50 publications and currently serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Biomechanics, Clinical Biomechanics, Spine, the European Spine Journal, and the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, among others, will report on his research with Dr. Moore next year during the society's annual meeting in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In addition to his research endeavors, Dr. Colloca is the founder and CEO of Neuromechanical Innovations.

Previous MacNab LaRocca Fellowship winners include Malcolm Pope, James Weinstein, Bjorn Rydevik, Manohar Panjabi, Tapio Vedeman, and Greg Kawchuk.


Australian Chiropractor Awarded Order of Australia

Dr. Phillip Donato, chair of the Chiropractic Board of Australia, has received the Order of Australia, the most prestigious honor Australian citizens can receive. Consideration for the award takes between 18 months and two years. Dr. Donato received the honor on June 13, the Queen's Birthday.
