Sherman College Names Chiropractors, Regents of the Year

Sherman College honored 13 chiropractors and other professionals during its annual lyceum, a homecoming and continuing education event attended by chiropractors from the U.S., Europe and New Zealand. The college is proud to announce the following 2011 award recipients:

Chiropractors of the Year

Drs. Gary Roeben, Brian Rutecki and Sam Wang have been named Chiropractors of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic. The Chiropractor of the Year Award is an honor bestowed upon doctors who have, through their service, given extraordinary time and effort to advance Sherman College and the chiropractic profession.

Drs. Roeben, Rutecki and Wang were classmates at Sherman and graduated together in 2001 with a vision to find a way to help other doctors manage the business aspect of a practice so they could focus on patient care and education. They co-founded Naperville Institute in 2001 and began a rapid expansion in 2002 that continues today. The three chiropractors, affectionately called "The Chicago Three" by their alma mater, distinguished themselves early on and received the Rising Stars Award from Sherman College in 2003 and the Spirit of Sherman College Award in 2008.

Drs. Roeben, Rutecki and Wang now are co-founders of Chiro One Wellness Centers, which has grown to 64 offices: 50 in Illinois, 12 in Kentucky and two in Texas. The doctors expect to have 75 wellness centers by the end of this year. Together with their other partners, CEO Dr. Stuart Bernsen, director of clinical operations; Dr. Mark Lagerkvist; and CMO Brett Penager, they manage a team of 480 employees nationwide. They have created a model that standardizes the Chiro One office experience. They want a patient who seeks chiropractic care in any of their offices to have the same quality experience. They work with their doctors to develop relationships that help everyone succeed.

Regents of the Year

Lakeview, Mich., chiropractors Gary and Cathleen Padden have been named Regents of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic. This award is presented in recognition of the couple's outstanding and continuous advancement of Sherman College through participation on the Board of Regents. This board is comprised of individuals dedicated to supporting quality chiropractic education through their financial donations.

Drs. Gary and Cathie Padden are both graduates of Sherman; Gary in 1983 and Cathie in 1985. Members of the alumni association since graduation, the couple have been actively engaged with the college as members of the Board of Regents for almost 25 years, and most currently as members of the college's elite Reach Out And Recruit (ROAR) program.

They were named Career Advisors of the Year in 2010 for their great success in sending to students to Sherman College. They currently have eight referred students enrolled at Sherman, with a ninth student planning to enroll this fall. "The Padden Eight" include Casey Bogart, Jeanette Chomic, Justin Peasley, Nick Schuster, Ashley Stalmack and Abbi Vivoda, as well as the Paddens' son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Tiffany Padden.

Through Sherman's My Scholarship Program, they earned a $5,000 scholarship in their names after their fifth referred student enrolled, and the Paddens are well on their way to a second $5,000 scholarship which they can award to a new enrolling student(s) of their choice. Because of the Paddens' success in recruiting students to the profession, they were invited to present "Padden's Pointers" for successful recruiting during a training event at Lyceum 2011.
