In a landmark development, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) has reached a $2.8 billion settlement to resolve antitrust claims brought by health care providers, including chiropractors. The lawsuit accused BCBS of dividing the nation into exclusive regions and limiting competition, which resulted in lower reimbursements for providers. New Mexico Practice Bill Hits Senate Wall
The New Mexico Senate Judiciary Committee has voted 5-2 against House Bill 127, legislation that, by all accounts, would have allowed appropriately trained N.M. doctors of chiropractic to practice with unprecedented scope – particularly with respect to prescriptive privileges – subject to approval by the state chiropractic board. As of press time, it is unknown whether proponents of H.B. 127 plan on introducing a replacement bill into the New Mexico legislature, and if so, under what time frame it will occur.
