When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Northwestern Names New Dean of Chiropractic College
Renee DeVries, DC, DACBR, has been named dean of the College of Chiropractic at Northwestern Health Sciences University. A 1989 graduate of Northwestern, Dr. DeVries is an associate professor and has worked for the university for 16 years. She has also served as chair of the department of diagnostic imaging and director of radiology consulting.
"I feel very honored to be named Dean of the College of Chiropractic," said Dr. DeVries. "As a graduate of Northwestern and a longtime faculty member, I have strong loyalty to this institution. I have the greatest respect for the members of the faculty and will work hard to support them as they continue to improve the curriculum and the educational experience for our students. I am excited about the future of the college and look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead for our graduates."
As dean, Dr. DeVries is the senior academic and management leader for the chiropractic program. She will be responsible for providing leadership when developing and implementing policy involving all aspects of the chiropractic program including curriculum content and design, clinical education and patient care.
"Dr. DeVries brings energy, passion and commitment to the position, as well as the broad respect of her colleagues and students," said Michael Wiles, DC, MEd, Northwestern's provost. The search for a new dean started after Dr. Wiles left the position to become provost of the university in June 2009.
