Because they have yet to pass national legislation protecting the chiropractic profession, Japanese DCs are in a similar situation that U.S. DCs faced. We were fortunate enough to be able to pass chiropractic licensure state by state. The DCs in Japan must accomplish this nationally, which has proved to be an extremely difficult task. And in spite of their efforts, Japanese DCs are currently faced with two chiropractic professions.
Davenport Proclaims September 18 "Chiropractic Awareness Day"
In honor of the first chiropractic adjustment, delivered on Sept. 18, 1895, in downtown Davenport, the city has issued a proclamation designating Sept. 18 as "Chiropractic Awareness Day." The first Chiropractic Awareness Day will be celebrated at 12 noon on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, which also is the day Palmer College of Chiropractic recognizes the founding of the chiropractic profession and the college during its annual Founder's Day.
During this first celebration, Donald Kern, DC, president of Palmer Davenport, will speak, and Davenport Alderman-at-Large Gene Meeker will read the proclamation in the courtyard of the B.J. and Mabel Palmer Residence at 8th and Brady streets in Davenport. In addition, Palmer Board of Trustees Officer and great-granddaughter of D.D. Palmer, Ms. Vickie A. Palmer, will make remarks, as well as Non-Profit Chiropractic Organization (NPCO) president and current Palmer student Joshua Heines, who founded NPCO in Davenport and approached the city with the idea of proclaiming Sept. 18 Chiropractic Awareness Day.
