When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
ACA Executive Vice President to Step Down
The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) announced on May 19 that Kevin P. Corcoran, CAE, its executive vice president since 2005, will be leaving the association to pursue other professional opportunities.
"Kevin has provided leadership to the ACA during challenging times," said ACA President Glenn D. Manceaux, DC. "We appreciate his service to ACA and the chiropractic profession, and wish him the best in his future endeavors."
During his tenure, Corcoran initiated a far-reaching review and overhaul of ACA's operations to strengthen its financial position and to improve staff productivity. This included acquiring the new association management system that serves as the centerpiece of ACA's grassroots patient advocacy campaign, and initiating a new national education conference. He also helped to spearhead ACA's successful effort in 2006 to defeat Senate Bill 1955, which would have severely undermined states' rights to set minimum standards for health insurance plans.
"I am very proud of the progress that ACA's staff and volunteers were able to accomplish together," said Corcoran. "I was fortunate to work with such good people. While I look forward to taking on new challenges, ACA will always be a part of me."
A graduate of Georgetown University and holder of the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation, Corcoran is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and serves on the ASAE Services, Inc., Board of Directors.
The ACA Board of Governors has begun the process of seeking a new executive vice president.
