Because they have yet to pass national legislation protecting the chiropractic profession, Japanese DCs are in a similar situation that U.S. DCs faced. We were fortunate enough to be able to pass chiropractic licensure state by state. The DCs in Japan must accomplish this nationally, which has proved to be an extremely difficult task. And in spite of their efforts, Japanese DCs are currently faced with two chiropractic professions.
Prominent Palmer College Alumnus, Dr. Cecil Grogan Dies
The chiropractic profession and Palmer College suffered a great loss on February 18, 1991, when Dr. Cecil Grogan died at his home in Smyrna, Georgia. A 1960 graduate of the Palmer School of Chiropractic, he will be remembered for his warm personality and his dedication to Palmer and the chiropractic profession.
Involved with the Palmer Chiropractic College (PCC) International Alumni Association since its beginnings in 1961, Dr. Grogan served as the president of the association from 1970-72, and was currently serving in his second term on the PCC board of trustees.
Dr. Grogan maintained a private practice in his home state of Georgia since 1961, and was a member of the Georgia Chiropractic Association, serving as its president and chairman of its board of directors. His honors include being named Chiropractor of the Year by the Georgia Chiropractic Association, Distinguished Fellow by the International Chiropractors Association (ICA), and Fellow by the Palmer Academy of Chiropractic.
While active in many professional and social organizations, Dr. Grogan also took a special interest in students. He felt strongly about talking with them about chiropractic, and was a frequent visitor and speaker on the Palmer campus. "I love to share chiropractic with the students," he was quoted as saying in a December 1989 article in the PCC Alumni News. "I get a great feel for their ideas."
Dr. Cecil Grogan and his dedication to the chiropractic profession and Palmer College will be sorely missed. Memorials can be made to the Dr. Cecil M. Grogan Memorial Fund, Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa 52803.
