In a landmark development, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) has reached a $2.8 billion settlement to resolve antitrust claims brought by health care providers, including chiropractors. The lawsuit accused BCBS of dividing the nation into exclusive regions and limiting competition, which resulted in lower reimbursements for providers. Although BCBS denies any wrongdoing, the company agreed to the settlement to avoid lengthy litigation – and you can get a piece of the pie.
Management Society Accepting Applications
The Society of Chiropractic Management Consultants (SCMC) was incorporated May 14, 1991 in Dallas, Texas (see June 7, 1991 issue of "DC"). The society was founded to promote and ensure the chiropractic profession of ethical, competent, and professional practice management consultants.
The SCMC strives to meet standards consistent with professionalism. Affiliation with the SCMC requires a commitment to established rules of business and ethical conduct. A member of the society, abides by these dictates: shall not sign students to practice management contracts until after their graduation; fees may not be based on a percentage of services rendered or income; shall not promote any specific religion(s) nor provide religious counseling; shall not engage in self-dealing or conflicts of interest with their clients; and shall not guarantee results to their clients or engage in misleading or deceptive advertising.
The SCMC has recently announced that it is accepting applications for membership. The next meeting of the SCMC is in Chicago, April 5-7. Candidates for admission will present themselves before the Application Committee on Sunday, April 5.
