Life Wins Approval on BBA Degree

The Bachelor of Business Administration degree within Life College's school of undergraduate studies received accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in July.

"The addition of the BBA is another step in the transition of Life College to a multi-degree university," said Mamie Brown, PhD, dean of the school of undergraduate studies.

Life's school of undergraduate studies was added in 1989, offering pre-chiropractic courses and a BS in nutrition for the chiropractic sciences. A BS in nutrition for dietetics was accredited by the American Dietetic Assoc. in December 1993.

Life's First National Champion: Marathoner John Bartlett

Life student John Bartlett, competing in his first marathon, upset the field at the National Assoc. of Intercollegiate Athletes' Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 28, to win the marathon and become Life's first national champion.

A "walk-on" to the cross-country team in 1991, John was basically a novice runner who trained hard and consistently and kept improving. "In all my years of coaching, I have never coached an athlete with the humility and perseverance that John possesses," said Life cross-country and track coach Mike Spino.

Early in 1994, John suffered a hip injury. John Downes, team chiropractor for Life College, helped John recover in time for the marathon.

John credited his success to a number of elements: Dr. Downes' care; Don Chiapetia's strength training; and the guidance and motivation from Coach Spino.

"I came to Life College to become a chiropractor," John said. "I got more than I ever asked for or dreamed about."
