Members of the California Chiropractic Association (CCA) met with state senators and assembly members April 26th during the association's annual legislative conference. The conference's keynote speaker was Senator Art Torres (D-Los Angeles), candidate for California Insurance Commissioner.

During the day-long program, DCs met with their senate and assembly representatives to discuss critical health care issues. "CCA recognizes the importance of health care cost-containment," said Dr. Bradley J. Sullivan, CCA president. "As a result, the association is pleased to advocate the cost-effective mechanisms of conservative, noninvasive chiropractic care. CCA/CCF Scholarships

The California Chiropractic Foundation (CCF), the educational affiliate of the California Chiropractic Association, recently awarded Mick Mahan and T.J. Osborne of Palmer College of Chiropractic West (PCCW) $1,000 scholarships as part of this year's CCF scholarship program honoring two students at each of the accredited chiropractic colleges in California.

Both students, who are in their 10th trimester, earned scholarship honors based on their academic and extra-curricular achievements, and involvement with PCCW's student CCA chapter. Eligibility was limited to students at accredited chiropractic colleges in California; qualification criteria also required membership in the college's student CCA chapter and a GPA of a least 3.0.

This is the second time T.J. Osborne has been honored with a CCA-related award: Last year, he was named "CCA Student of the Year" when he completed his chiropractic prerequisite work at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. He has served as vice president of Palmer West's student CCA chapter, is past president of the PCCW Associated Student Government, a member of the Dean's List for academic honors, and co-recipient of the inaugural Peggy Sherman Endowment Scholarship award (Peggy Sherman, DC, is a PCCW faculty member who for the past eight years has donated her teaching salary toward establishing a student scholarship endowment fund).

Mick Mahan completed his chiropractic prerequisites at American River and Chabot Colleges, and while attending PCCW has participated in a variety of academic and extracurricular activities and organizations. He recently completed a term as first vice president of the Palmer West Associated Student Government and is currently chairman of the PCCW Clinic Council. A 1993 American Chiropractic Association (ACA) scholarship recipient, Mr. Mahan has also been active as class representative in the Palmer West student CCA chapter.
