Chiropractic/Biomechanical Research Center at Florida State University is Planned

Editorial Staff

The Lincoln Chiropractic Education and Research Fund (LCERF) under the chairmanship of Dr. Edward Maurer of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and the Florida Chiropractic Association, led by chief executive officer Dr. Edward Williams, have plans to establish a chiropractic and biomechanical research center at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.

The LCERF has pledged $250,000 of the one million dollars necessary to establish the "Lincoln College Eminent Scholar Chair," the first step in establishing the Chiropractic and Biomechanical Research Center within the College of Human Sciences at Florida State University. The LCERF has begun a fundraising campaign. Dr. Maurer reported the response has been good, with support coming from the Lincoln Chiropractic College alumni, the members of the FCA, and from various corporate sponsors and friends of the profession.

Once the Eminent Scholar Chair is established, a $750,000 grant from the state of Florida will be available. A perpetual endowment would then be established, with the earnings each year used to fund the faculty, graduate assistants, clerical and support personnel, supplies, and the equipment and tools of research. FSU will provide the physical facilities necessary to house the center.

The Chiropractic and Biomechanical Research Center would be the first chiropractic entity of its kind in the US in a state tax-supported university. FSU is a nationally recognized leader in academia and research, and will incorporate the center into its "movement sciences" program which already includes exercise physiology and motor control, and nutrition and food programs.

Those interested in contributing to fund the Lincoln College Eminent Scholar Chair, are asked to write a check of $250 or more to LCERF-Research Center Escrow, and send it to LCERF, 2330 Gull Road, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49001.
