David Koch, DC, will become president of Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic on Jan. 1, 1997, following the retirement of the college's founder/president, Dr. Thomas Gelardi.
SPARTANBURG, South Carolina -- The Sherman College Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of David B. Koch, DC, as the next president of Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic.
Dr. Thomas Gelardi, the college's founder and only president will retire at the end of this year. When the new year begins, Dr. Koch will assume the responsibilities of president of the college.
"Dr. Koch was selected for his leadership skills, and his commitment to the profession and the college," said Dr. Joseph Donofrio, chairman of the Sherman College Board of Trustees.
Dr. Koch, considered an authority on the principles of straight chiropractic, indicated he would "continue Sherman's commitment to straight chiropractic," and to academic excellence and research.
Dr. Koch has been affiliated with Sherman College for 19 years: first as a student (1977-80), then as an instructor in chiropractic history/philosophy and spinal anatomy in 1981. Dr. Koch has also taught biodynamics, radiographic anatomy, and x-ray physics, becoming an assistant professor in 1984, an associate professor in 1988, and a full professor in 1993.
Dr. Koch has maintained a private practice in Spartanburg from 1981 until early in 1996, when he was appointed as Sherman's senior vice president for operations.
Dr. Koch was born in Michigan, raised in Ohio, and now lives in Chesnee, South Carolina. He is married to Rebecca (nee Haynes) of Greenville, South Carolina. The couple has a 13-year-old daughter, Sarah.
