When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Life College Granted University Status
Life College founder and president, Dr. Sid Williams, has been notified by the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission that his request for university status for Life College has been approved. The college, originally chartered as Life Chiropractic College in 1974, and renamed Life College in 1989, will henceforth be known as Life University, Inc.
"With the creation of Life University comes the recognition that we have become a diverse, mulitfaceted institution, offering a wide variety of degree programs," said Dr. Williams. "Chiropractic was the vital heart of Life College, and will continue to be the soul of our university," he added.
Since being granted a charter in Sept. 1974 for Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, Georgia, gaining university status "has been a 22-year effort and a 45-year dream" for Dr. Williams. About the time the college was first chartered, Dr. Williams sent a message to his fellow chiropractors about his vision: "Our goal is to build, equip and staff a desperately needed accredited college of chiropractic ... and to locate it here in the heart of the southland. The purpose of Life Chiropractic College, and eventually Life University, will be to train young people from all walks of life ..."
The first Life class began on Jan. 20, 1975 with 22 students in makeshift classrooms. Today's chiropractic enrollment is 3,500 students, with another 700 students in other degree programs, including: master of science in sports health science; B.A. in business admin. with a major in management; B.S. in nutrition for the chiropractic sciences; B.S. in nutrition for dietetics; the chiropractic technician certificate; and pre-professional preparation for careers in health care and business.
