DAVENPORT, Iowa - The board of trustees of the Palmer Chiropractic University has voted to pursue discussions with Florida State University to develop a Palmer campus in Port Orange. The Palmer trustees are keeping their options open. If negotiations with FSU don't pan out, the board said it would consider "public/private partnership, or to pursue avenues with other interested parties in Florida to develop a campus."
Palmer officials first received an invitation to consider establishing an educational facility from officials at Port Orange, Florida about two years ago. Why have hundreds of students leaving the state to pursue a chiropractic education elsewhere, reasoned Port Orange officials? Subsequently, a bill was passed by the Florida legislature to establish a chiropractic program in conjunction with Florida State University. The Florida legislation was another indication of the increased interest in "complementary health care," including chiropractic.
"Palmer Chiropractic is committed to having a presence in the southeastern portion of the United States," said Vickie Palmer, chairman of the Palmer Board of Trustees.
Foot Levelers' Video Broadcast by Network Affiliates
"Walk Right, Feel Right," a television segment on orthotics and chiropractic aired on CNBC to an audience of over 68 million viewers, is now being shown by major network affiliates around the country via Video News Release (VNR).
VNR is transmitted via satellite to television newsrooms across the country. Recent broadcast figures reveal that "Walk Right, Feel Right, sponsored by Foot Levelers" has had 17 telecasts by major network affiliates, reaching an audience of more than 800,000 viewers.

"Chiropractic: An Introduction" by Ted Koren,DC, has been published in the spring edition of Frontier Perspectives, a publication of the Center for Frontier Sciences at Temple University.
DC's Publisher/Editor Presented Public Health Award
LONG BEACH, CA - Don Petersen Jr., editor and publisher of Dynamic Chiropractic, was presented the "Distinguished Service Award" by the Chiropractic Health Care (CHC) section of the American Public Health Association (APHA) at Cleveland Chiropractic College's Los Angeles campus Homecoming festivities, October 6-8. APHA representative Dr. Rand Baird and Cleveland President Dr. Carl S. Cleveland III presented the award.
"As editor and publisher of Dynamic Chiropractic, Don has supported our efforts from successive membership drives, and donated literally thousands of dollars worth of space in his publications for our activities," stated Dr. Baird, who nominated Mr. Petersen for the award. "He has never turned down a request for help. He has always been there for us."
Mr. Petersen was asked how this award differs from others he has received from the chiropractic community: "This recognizes a new phase in our efforts to create a greater awareness of the benefits of chiropractic for the American public. These efforts include several newly developed web-based services that allow doctors the ability to educate their patients and community. This is critical for our profession to succeed, and has become our primary mission."
ABCA's "Doctor of the Year"
OAKLAND, CA - Life Chiropractic College West Professor Gloria Niles,DC, was named the "Doctor of the Year" by the American Black Chiropractic Association (ABCA) at its 19th annual conference, held in Oakland, CA, in September. The award recognizes her ample volunteer work.
During the ABCA conference, Dr. Niles was also honored by being appointed by the board to serve a third term as president. She became president of the ABCA in 1997.
Dr. Niles has been a professor at Life West since 1992. She graduated magna cum laude from Life West in 1990, and is a diplomate of the American Chiropractic Academy of Neurology.
The ABCA was founded in 1981 in St. Louis by the late Dr. Bobby Westbrook.
Life's Annual Fund Drive
MARIETTA, GA - Life University kicked off its annual fund annual fund drive, with a goal of raising $500,000. The monies will be divided equally between funding scholarships and the university's research efforts. The Sid Williams Research Center is conducting research in more that 40 areas.
Bradford Pizza, a Marietta chiropractor, is chairman of the drive. The vice-chairman is Joseph Gregory,DC.
