When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Consumers Demanding Reliable Information about Chiropractic
By the first week in June, the number of patients and consumers subscribing to the To Your Health e-mail newsletter exceeded 50,000. The number of subscribers continues to increase at a rate of almost 1,500 per week.
Every two weeks, these patients/consumers learn about the benefits of chiropractic and health and wellness from short, well-written, consumer-oriented articles. Patients receive newsletters with the name, address, phone number, e-mail address, weblink, and photograph (as available) of their doctors of chiropractic right at the top of each e-mail newsletter. Consumers receive the same information for the participating DCs in their community.
The exciting news is that there appears to be a direct relationship between the number of patients that subscribe to the To Your Health newsletter and the number of consumers in the same community that also subscribe. This gives the distinct impression that the patient e-mail newsletter is being used by patients to educate their family, friends, and co-workers.
Several doctors in the Atlanta area have now signed up almost 2,300 patients as subscribers. Consequently, the largest concentration of consumer subscribers is also in the same area: 317. Likewise, DCs in Long Island, New York have almost 900 patient subscribers, with a resultant 151 consumer subscribers, the second highest concentration of consumer subscribers.
This clearly shows that not only are patients interested in reliable information about chiropractic, but that they are willing to tell others when they have that information.
The second piece of exciting news is the number of people outside the United States that are interested in chiropractic. One would expect almost 1,000 consumer subscribers in Canada, but there are 255 subscribers in China; 135 in Malaysia; 149 in Pakistan; 144 in the Philippines; and 866 subscribers in India. Consumers from over 140 countries outside North America now subscribe to a chiropractic e-mail newsletter.
This further demonstrates the tremendous interest in chiropractic around the world. With the support of more doctors of chiropractic, we expect to bring the number of subscribers up to over 100,000 in the next 9-10 months.
