Life West Celebrates Dr. Clum's 20 Years as President

HAYWARD, California - Gerald Clum,DC, president of Life Chiropractic College West, was given a surprise party at the college's campus to celebrate his 20-year anniversary as president of the college.

"It's amazing - I can't remember not being here, and at the same time it has been a blink of an eye," marveled Dr. Clum.

In his twenties, Dr. Clum served as a professor and administrator at Life Chiropractic College in Marrietta, Georgia. In 1981, at age 28, Dr. Clum moved West to take the helm of the new Life campus in San Lorenzo, California, situated on the east bay area of the San Francisco peninsula.

In April 1999, Life Chiropractic College West held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate its relocation to a new 11.4-acre campus in Hayward, about six miles from the former campus in San Lorenzo.

"The great part of this job has not been the facility, has not been the politics - but it has been all of the people who have passed my way that makes this a job and an avocation," observed Dr. Clum.

In January 2001, the Hayward Chamber of Commerce honored Dr. Clum with the "Business Person of the Year" award. The Hayward Chamber estimated the economic impact of the Life West on the community at more than $50 million annually. It also applauded the college's Public Health Center, which offers affordable health care to the Hayward community, and tallies more that 1,800 patient visits a week.

The award presenter from the Hayward Chamber of Commerce extolled Dr. Clum's community involvement as a member of the board of directors of the Family Emergency Shelter Coalition; as past board member and treasurer of Project Eden; as past board member of the Developmental Disabilities Council of Alameda County; and as a member of the Hayward Rotary Club.

Dr. Clum is also actively involved in the World Federation of Chiropractic, the ICA, the Association of Chiropractic Colleges, and the Council on Chiropractic Education. He was named "Chiropractor of the Year" in 1992 by the ICA and by Dynamic Chiropractic.
