New President at Logan University
Logan University’s board of trustees has selected the institution’s eighth president: Garrett Thompson, DC, PhD. Dr. Thompson, who officially begins his tenure on March 1, 2025, replaces current president Clay McDonald, DC, MBA, JD, who announced his retirement in February 2024. At that time, the board initiated a nationwide search for a new president that ultimately led to Dr. Thompson’s selection.
“Since February, the Presidential Search Committee received more than 70 applications for President, which I believe is a testament to the quality and reputation of this institution,” said Board Chair Donald S. Altman, DDS, DHSc, EdD, in a Logan press release announcing the new president. “We’re confident Dr. Thompson is the right person to further Logan’s mission with the integrity, leadership and vision that Dr. McDonald has provided over the past 12 years. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Thompson to campus.”
Dr. Thompson, who currently serves as vice president of academic affairs and chief academic officer at Sonoran University of Health Sciences in Tempe, Ariz., will be officially inaugurated as Logan president in early May 2025 at the William D. Purser, DC Center on the Logan campus.
UWS Looking for a New President
Longtime University of Western States President, Dr. Joseph Brimhall, recently retired after 21 years and an interim president has been appointed while a search is underway for the next UWS president. According to an announcement from UWS Board Chair, Marlene Moore, Dr. Nathan Long, president of Saybrook University, has assumed the role of interim president and is taking a sabbatical from Saybrook during the UWS presidential search process.
“I come to University of Western States with a deep respect for its legacy and a shared passion for a whole-person approach to health care,” said Dr. Long. “I look forward to working together to build upon that legacy and prepare the next generation of health care professionals.”
Among Dr. Brimhall’s accomplishments during his tenure at UWS, he expanded the university’s degree offerings to support the university’s mission of advancing holistic health; and co-created the Oregon Collaborative for Integrative Medicine, of which UWS is a founding institution.
Palmer College Honored for Largest-Ever Advancement Campaign
Palmer College of Chiropractic has received a Silver Circle of Excellence Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Palmer won the award for its historic “Daring and Driven: The Campaign for Palmer College” – the largest-ever campaign by a chiropractic college, raising $30.2 million and engaging 1,200 new donors.
According to the college in a press release, “CASE’s Circle of Excellence Awards are the premier recognition program for educational advancement. These peer-selected and adjudicated awards celebrate colleges, universities and schools worldwide whose talented staff have advanced their institutions with resourcefulness and ingenuity.” This year’s competition featured 4,200-plus entries from 28 countries.
“What a success story for Palmer College, which, before the campaign, had .8% alumni participation, a deficient database, and no fundraising staff,” said one of the competition judges. “How can we not all be reminded of what can be accomplished through a systematic approach, strategic advanced planning, sheer optimism, and unrelenting effort?”
Cleveland-KC Hosts High Schoolers
Cleveland University – Kansas City hosted “science-minded” high-school students from Blue Springs (Mo.) School District June 17-21, 2024. The camp, first held in 2018, allows students who are contemplating a health sciences career the opportunity to “see how the various disciplines offered at CUKC could contribute to patient care and what role each plays in the overall healthcare landscape.”
“Because CUKC offers degrees in chiropractic and the health sciences, this week-long experience is a logical next step to begin exploring the ever-widening world of healthcare careers,” said Dr. Diane Bartholomew, CUKC vice president of academic affairs, in a university press release.
Northwestern Advances Human Performance Center With Residency
Northwestern Health Sciences University’s Human Performance Center now has a residency designed to “help advance research, teaching, and awareness of critical custom orthotics in enhancing stability for the back, knees, hips, pelvis, and neck.”
The Foot Levelers Residency, funded by Foot Levelers in partnership with NWHSU, “will lead custom orthotics research projects in the HPC, advise student interns and teach about custom orthotics and products in NWHSU classes, clinics, and continuing education offerings and provide guidance in the NWHSU clinics on best practices in custom orthotics.”
It was only two years ago (2022) that Foot Levelers established a chair in biomechanics and human performance at the university – a position currently held by Dr. Andy Klein, who heads the Human Performance Center.
Celebrating 100 Years of Service
Anabolic Laboratories is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The fourth-generation family-owned nutrition / supplement company, founded in 1924, is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Sherman College Announces New Endowed Scholarship
Sherman College of Chiropractic has announced a new endowed scholarship designed to support student interns at the college’s Chiropractic Center. The scholarship is funded courtesy of a donation from Sherman graduate – and co-founder of Chiro One Wellness Centers – Sam Wang, DC.
“On behalf of Sherman College of Chiropractic, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sam Wang for his generosity in establishing the Chiro One Wellness Center endowed scholarship that will impact our interns for years to come,” said Sherman President Dr. Jack Bour-la in a Sherman press release. “Dr. Wang’s commitment to supporting our students exemplifies the spirit of giving that propels Sherman and the chiropractic profession forward.”
