American Arthritis Foundation Names First DC to Board

For the first time in the American Arthritis Foundation’s history, a doctor of chiropractic has been appointed to the AAF board. Kenneth Thomas, DC, began a three-year term at the beginning of 2024.

Dr. Thomas is senior education consultant for admissions and recruiting at Parker University. According to a release from the university announcing the historic appointment, his AAF duties in addition to board service include “setting the unique direction of the foundation, managing projects such as setting up chiropractic clinics that will treat arthritic patients, and much more.”

“The plan is to begin training chiropractic clinics to become AAF arthritis-sponsored clinics,” said Dr. Thomas in the release. “I am excited about integrating medicine and chiropractic care, serving patients, and providing treatment protocols that are the best for patients. Collaborative care is the way of the future! Seeing the AAF step out and do this is truly rewarding. I hope this relationship will flourish in the future and this collaboration will continue for all future generations of chiropractors!”

New ACA Health Policy Fellowship

The American Chiropractic Association has established a one-year Health Policy Fellowship designed to educate DCs about healthy policy, coding, and other issues “to prepare them to advocate on behalf of the chiropractic profession in the future.” The fellowship’s first cohort includes ACA members Drs. Cynthia Chapman, Della M. Schmid and Morgan Price.

“This is an opportunity for members to develop knowledge and skills that will expand ACA’s capacity to influence policymaking at the national level,” said ACA President Dr. Leo Bronston.

New Scholarship for Logan Students

Doctor of chiropractic students at Logan University can soon benefit from The Joint Chiropractic Endowed Scholarship, established by Logan and The Joint Corp. The annual $10,000 scholarship, designed to provide tuition assistance, will be awarded beginning in 2026 to a Logan student “who demonstrates academic achievement and a passion for chiropractic and quality patient care.” The scholarship is the largest gift made by The Joint to a nonprofit organization.

“Logan University is thrilled to offer its Doctor of Chiropractic students a new scholarship opportunity, with the help from The Joint Corp.,” said Clay McDonald, DC, MBA, JD, Logan University president. “We are tremendously grateful for the dedicated support of The Joint Corp. as we partner on this important effort to provide financial resources to deserving students.”
