The Obesity Epidemic: Breaking North America’s Back

As chiropractors, we see a high percentage of overweight and obese patients whose conditions are either a direct result of, or exacerbated by, their weight problem. This is particularly prevalent for doctors of chiropractic. So, what can you do to help?

Perhaps a doctor-supervised weight loss program is just what the doctor ordered. There's certainly plenty of that pie to go around. The Weight Loss Products industry in the U.S. alone is over $160 billion and is expected to more than double to $305 billion by 2032. It is a huge market, and like American waistlines, it is only getting bigger!
Even a fraction of a fractional share of that $160 billion mentioned above would make a huge difference for any practice. And with over 51% of the US population wanting to lose weight on any given day, the opportunity to help patients who are struggling with weight-related issues is literally walking through your door every day!"
So how does one go about evaluating the managed weight loss programs on the market? Start at the core offering. If the program itself doesn't have a documented track record of positive patient outcomes, take a pass. Ease of implementation and minimal resource requirements are in the top five must-haves, as well.
Additional key considerations include a proven, turnkey marketing system, and adequate margins. If too much time or effort is required to sell it to even your existing patient base, the profits will never materialize.
Lastly, to protect yourself from getting a nickel and dimed, scan the fine print for hidden fees or purchase requirements that could hinder your ability to implement the program as a profit center. And to that end, your bonus for introducing such a program should be a stream of new patients that come in through the weight loss door and convert to chiropractic patients.
