Life West Opens Second Campus in Nebraska
Life Chiropractic College West celebrated the grand opening of its campus at Bellevue University, located in the Omaha metropolitan area, on Nov. 4, 2023. Attending the event were Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike; representatives from Bellevue University including President Dr. Mary Hawkins; chiropractic dignitaries including representatives from Life University, Logan University, and Parker University.; and of course, Life West leaders including President Dr. Ron Oberstein, Executive Vice President, Dr. Marilyn Al-Hassan, and Board of Regents members Dr. Jim Nanda (chairperson), Dr. Steven Silk and Dr. Niraj Patel.
“We are excited to open our doors in Bellevue, Nebraska, and extend the reach of Life Chiropractic College West to the Midwest,” said Dr. Oberstein. “This expansion allows us to bring our unique, clinically-inspired chiropractic education to Nebraska and contribute to the development of healthcare professionals dedicated to enhancing the well-being of individuals and communities.”
NBCE Not Increasing 2024 Fees
The National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) has announced that it will keep its 2024 examination fees the same as 2023. According to Dr. Norman Ouzts Jr., NBCE CEO:
“At a time of historic inflation, the NBCE has effectively managed costs thanks to the Board’s excellent execution of fiduciary duties. We understand that expenses are a primary concern for all examinees and are pleased that the stability of our exam costs will not cause an additional burden on their budgets.”
The NBCE has raised its exam fees only once in the past six years; and only 0.7% compared with the last five-year average annual increase in the Consumer Price Index of 4.2%, according to Dr. Ouzts Jr.
F4CP President Presents at Nasdaq
Foundation for Chiropractic Progress President, Dr. Sherry McAllister, recently presented “Research Shows, Chiropractic First” at Nasdaq, highlighting the return on investment (ROI) of chiropractic care.
“We are extremely honored to have had the opportunity to take the stage at Nasdaq, a platform synonymous with global innovation and leadership,” said Dr. McAllister. “This talk not only reflects the dedication and hard work of the Foundation, but also reinforces our commitment to advancing the chiropractic profession and driving positive change globally.”
Nasdaq owns and operates three stock exchanges in the U.S.: NASDAQ, the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, and the Boston Stock Exchange.
Inspiring the Next Generation
In other F4CP news, the foundation has launched five new videos in support of its mobile-driven ad campaign targeting college students. Aimed to “inspire the next generation of chiropractic students,” the ongoing campaign began in February of last year and runs through February 2024. The F4CP describes the “A Career in Chiropractic”-themed campaign as follows:
“Available exclusively on mobile devices, the video and editorial-style native ads were created in partnership with five chiropractic colleges. The content shows DCs at work in varied settings, including offices and sporting events, while also enjoying their personal lives. The overall message is that DCs help patients while maintaining work-life balance.”
WFC Congress Honors the Best in Chiropractic Research
Chiropractic researchers took the stage at the World Federation of Chiropractic’s 17th Biennial Congress in Australia, with papers and poster presentations receiving honors. Among the awards bestowed at the event:
Scott Haldeman Award for Outstanding Research ($10,000): Dr. Martha Funabashi, et al.; “Defining and Classifying Adverse Events Following Joint Manipulation and Mobilization: An International E-Delphi Study.”
NCMIC Early Career Researcher Award ($3,000): Dr Zacariah Shannon; “Biopsychosocial Factors as Mechanisms of the Effect of Chiropractic Care in U.S. Active Duty Military Members.”
JMPT-NCMIC Research Papers Awards (First Prize, $7,500): Dr. Paulo Gomes de Oliveira; “Inside the Painful Mind: Explaining Long-Term Brain Alterations in Fibromyalgia.” (Second Prize, $5,000): Dr. Nichole Phillips, et al.; “The Association Between Bullying and Headache, Stomach Ache and Backache in Australian Schoolchildren.”
IBCE Poster Award Competition (First Prize, $3,000): Dr. Nora Bakaa: “Factors That Influence Surgical Decision Making for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis: A Qualitative Study.” (Second Prize, $1,750): Dr. Amy Miller; “Development of A Practice-Based Research Network: The Collaborative Research UK Network for Chiropractic (CRUNCH).”
NCMIC sponsored the research paper awards, while the International Board of Chiropractic Examiners (IBCE) sponsored the poster awards competition.
