FCA Reschedules The National

The Florida Chiropractic Association (FCA) has rescheduled its signature convention and expo, The National, from its original Aug. 27-30, 2020 date due to rising COVID-19 case counts in Florida and elsewhere over the past several months. As of press time, The National will be held Nov. 5-8, 2020, at the original event location, the Hyatt Regency Orlando.

In making the announcement, the FCA emphasized that a virtual component will also be available for this and future association events to accommodate those who cannot join the event in person: "[F]or those who feel 2020 is too soon to attend any event, we still ask you to join us this year as we offer our first-ever virtual component to conventions. This virtual option will be available with every event for the foreseeable future."

Because they have yet to pass national legislation protecting the chiropractic profession, Japanese DCs are in a similar situation that U.S. DCs faced. We were fortunate enough to be able to pass chiropractic licensure state by state. The DCs in Japan must accomplish this nationally, which has proved to be an extremely difficult task. Recently, I taught a 12-hour whiplash class to a group of chiropractors for continuing education. I taught that performing O’Donoghue’s maneuver enabled the providers to differentiate cervical strain from sprain. To my surprise, one of the attendees stated that it is not possible to diagnose a cervical strain and sprain with a whiplashed patient using O’Donoghue’s maneuver.
