When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."

Life to Open Branch Campus in Italy
Life University's Board of Trustees has approved development of a branch campus in Rome, Italy. According to the university, the branch campus DC program will be identical to the degree program offered at Life, and will be taught in English. A launch date has not been released as of press time.
According to the official announcement, the Life board "approved the project in concept" earlier this year following discussions with Dr. John Williams, president of the Associazione Italiana Chiropratici, who approached Life regarding a possible partnership to develop a DC program in Italy. Since then, Life has been working with an established Italian university to find a home for the branch campus, currently planned to take shape in the heart of Rome near St. Peter's Basilica.
"Life University has a long history of working with groups around the world to make chiropractic care and chiropractic education available worldwide," said Board Chair Dr. Deborah Pogrelis. "The Board of Trustees of Life University is dedicated to fulfilling that commitment."
Northwestern Research Arm Benefits From Big Donation
Northwestern Health Sciences University recently dedicated the H.C. Sweere Center for Clinical Biomechanics and Applied Ergonomics. Named after Harry Sweere – the late brother of Northwestern professor Dr. Joseph Sweere, who founded the center and serves as advisor – the facility is funded by a substantial donation from Harry and his wife totaling nearly $3.5 million.
According to Dr. Sweere, the donation "provides funds for several objectives, including annual $1,000 scholarships for our most academically gifted chiropractic students (we have provided 65 such scholarships thus far); an annual $10,000 Fellowship Award for up to two DCs willing and interested in pursuing post-doctoral training and credentialing (master's or PhD studies /credentialing in either clinical biomechanics or applied ergonomics); and funding for an annual Visiting Scholars Award.
"As a component of our research center, we have created a highly sophisticated human performance assessment laboratory headed up by our center's Director, Bradford Bennett, PhD. ... Our Applied Ergonomics Division will engage in a variety of occupational health and applied ergonomics services, including the provision of on-site chiropractic care for the business and corporate community; while fulfilling our research mission that includes the documentation and publication of outcomes achieved in respected peer-reviewed journals."
