When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Dr. Anthony Hamm Elected New President of American Chiropractic Association
The American Chiropractic Association's (ACA) House of Delegates (HOD) met recently in Washington, D.C., and elected Anthony Hamm, DC, of Goldsboro, N.C., to serve as president for the next two years.
Dr. Hamm has a long history of working collaboratively with other health-related professionals and is a national expert on chiropractic coding, documentation and risk management issues. He has lectured and written extensively on these subjects over many years. In 2011, he made history as the first chiropractic physician to be elected co-chair of the American Medical Association's (AMA) Health Care Professionals Advisory Committee Review Board (HCPAC). HCPAC develops recommendations on values for new and revised CPT® codes.
Dr. Hamm previously served as ACA vice president, president of the ACA Council of Delegates and as the association's North Carolina delegate. He is also past chairman of ACA's Coding and Reimbursement Committee and Ethics Committee.
In his first remarks as president, Dr. Hamm encouraged delegates to focus on creating greater access to chiropractic services for patients looking for new and better options. "We possess the opportunity to shape health care into a conservative-first approach, to promote health, wellness and preventive strategies and to promote patient-centered, evidence-informed health care."
Dr. Hamm earned his chiropractic doctoral degree in 1979 from National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, IL. He holds post-doctoral certifications in chiropractic orthopedics, acupuncture and forensic sciences. In his home state, he has served as a forensic examiner/expert in professional liability and fraud investigations. In addition to being a member of the North Carolina Chiropractic Association, he is active locally in several community and civic organizations, and is a past chairman of the Wayne County Special Olympics.
