Logan University is taking a leadership role in the St. Louis health care community as the founding member of the St. Louis Health Care Baldrige Community of Excellence, the first local chapter of the state's Excellence in Missouri Foundation. Along with Logan, a group of local health care organizations has formed a collaborative relationship to promote performance excellence in their community.
Created by Congress to increase the competitiveness of U.S. businesses, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Improvement Act of 1987 has served as a recognized and proven approach for improving management systems and achieving performance excellence. Recipients of the prestigious Baldrige award are recognized as industry role models, setting a standard for employee engagement, efficiency and high customer satisfaction ratings.
That spirit of excellence reflects what Logan University wants to foster on campus and in the local health care industry, said Logan President Clay McDonald, DC, MBA, JD.
"We are committed to maximizing performance in all of our efforts, from patient care, to faculty advancement, to rigorous academics," Dr. McDonald said. "We want to share our journey of excellence using the Baldrige model with our peers in the St. Louis health care community. Together we can set a higher standard of care and performance for the entire region."
Logan University received its charter as the founding member of the St. Louis Health Care Baldrige Community of Excellence (HCBCE) in January 2014 and is the latest chapter to join the Excellence in Missouri Foundation, the statewide organization that oversees the annual Missouri Quality Award based on the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence.
Other St. Louis health care organizations participating include Lutheran Senior Services, SSM Integrated Health Technologies, Home State Health Plan, Mid-America Transplant Services, Centene Corporation, Mercy Hospital, HCQIS, Great Circle, Preferred Family Healthcare, Transtria and Walker Management Psychologists.

Dr. Louis Sportelli received the Lee-Homewood Chiropractic Heritage Award during the annual conference of the Association for the History of Chiropractic (AHC). During his nearly 60-year career, Dr. Sportelli has embodied the spirit of the award, given to “living individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the chiropractic profession.”
Presently there is no consensus on the best treatment for Achilles tendon rupture; and its management is still controversial. The treatment options are conservative treatment and surgical repair. With either treatment, be it conservative or surgical, Achilles tendon tears necessitate prolonged recovery and rehabilitative management.
