Parker Now a University

Parker College of Chiropractic has rebranded as Parker University, citing the name change "as part of an expansion of current graduate degree offerings and programs with a focused long-term strategy of educating the world's top health care and wellness practitioners for today's changing health care landscape." The chiropractic program, Parker College of Chiropractic, will continue to be the institution's hallmark degree program.

"Alumni and student surveys conducted last year identified many of the suggested degree plans," said Dr. Fabrizio Mancini, president of Parker University. "We're also working with a SACS consultant to identify the programs with the highest market demand. Although the list is not final, bachelors programs in health technologies and masters programs in public health, nutrition, sports science and many others have been discussed."

On April 16, the first class of DC students graduated from Parker University College of Chiropractic; rebranding will take place on the Web and in other school materials within the next year, according to the university.

Virginia Chiro Association Participating in "Healing Hands 4 Heroes"

The Virginia Chiropractic Association (VCA) has announced that it is the first health care organization in the state to participate in the "Healing Hands 4 Heroes" program launched by the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations. COCSA announced the launch of the program at its annual meeting in Arizona late last year. According to the VCA, Healing Hands "invites Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) to learn about the stresses and challenges our Service Members and their Families are facing as a result of multiple deployments. Three online courses addressing 'the invisible wounds of war' have been developed in conjunction with Cleveland Chiropractic College: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Issues of Women Returning From Combat. They are being made available for free to all DCs and qualify as type 1 credit in Virginia."

VCA members who complete the Helping Hands 4 Heroes training will receive a certificate of completion and a special poster they can display in their office to demonstrate their commitment to the program. In addition, they will also be listed on the Army OneSource Web site, giving service members and their families throughout Virginia the ability to locate a doctor of chiropractic in their area.

ACC Honors Life Provost, EVP

Dr. Brian McAulay, the executive vice president and provost of Life University, has received the Presidential Service Citation from the Association of Chiropractic Colleges. Dr. McAulay was honored in Las Vegas during the association's business meeting, held in conjunction with the Research Agenda Conference.

"Dr. McAulay serves as chair of the ACC Enrollment Task Force, whose strategic charge was to investigate how member institutions might work together to increase the prospective chiropractic student applicant pool," said Dr. Frank Nicchi, outgoing ACC president and president of New York Chiropractic College, who presented Dr. McAulay with the award. "In view of his exceptional efforts in coordinating activities related to the Enrollment Task Force, Dr. McAulay was awarded a Presidential Service Citation for meritorious service to the Association of Chiropractic Colleges."

"Our collective efforts will ultimately lead to a better understanding of who decides to become a chiropractor, who isn't currently considering chiropractic as a career – and should be – and how to 'get the word out' more effectively," said Dr. McAulay. "For me, the award was gratifying because it recognized all that has been accomplished over the past several months by the Task Force. For [Life University], it signifies our commitment to combine with leaders from other chiropractic institutions to address common issues and come to solutions that serve the common good."
