When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Northwestern Health Sciences University Expands Natural Care Center Team
Northwestern Health Sciences University has added a chiropractor to its Bloomington Natural Care Center team. Jon Mulholland, DC, CCSP, CSCS, a 2000 graduate of Northwestern, started on Sept. 1, 2010. Dr. Mulholland also has certification as a certified chiropractic sports practitioner (CCSP) and certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS).
Dr. Mulholland and his family relocated from New York to take the position at Northwestern. He sold his two private chiropractic practices in New York - a sports injury practice in Plattsburgh and a general chiropractic practice in Elizabethtown - after accepting the new position.
For the past five years, Dr. Mulholland served as a chiropractic consultant for the United States Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y. He has traveled extensively as one of the team chiropractors for the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Teams; has been a sports medicine consultant for the New Zealand Cycling Teams; and was the team chiropractor for the U.S. Paralympic Teams at the 2010 Paralympics Winter Games in British Columbia, Canada.
"I love this school," said Dr. Mulholland. "I'm excited to be working with student interns and teaching them some of the things I've learned."
