Texas Chiropractic College welcomes J. Clay McDonald, JD, MBA, DC, as the school's new senior vice president and provost, TCC President Dr. Richard G. Brassard announced on April 16. At TCC, Dr. McDonald will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the college under the policy and direction of the president, as well as providing leadership in all areas including academic, business and administrative.
"I am excited to welcome Dr. McDonald to the TCC family as our new provost," said Dr. Brassard. "His extensive experiences in the realm of chiropractic education are a boon to our program. In the past, he has made presentations to our Board of Regents, as well as addressed our graduates at commencement; from student to board member, we are all looking forward to working with Clay."
"I'm really excited about being here," said Dr. McDonald. "TCC is already taken great strides in planning for the future with new construction over the past 10 years, ongoing facility improvements, and most importantly, enhancing the curriculum and the learning process for our students. This is a great place for me to be and I look forward to being a part of the College's future."
Most recently, Dr. McDonald was the assistant chancellor / vice chancellor for strategic development and chief compliance officer at Palmer College of Chiropractic. In addition to his work at Palmer, he is also a board member of the Council on Chiropractic Education, and recently completed a two-year term as its vice president.
Dr. McDonald received his doctor of chiropractic degree from Logan College of Chiropractic in 1982, his master's degree in business administration from St. Ambrose University in 1997, and his law degree from Valparaiso University in 2001. He also holds a diplomate in chiropractic rehabilitation, is a founding member of the ACA's Council on Chiropractic Rehabilitation, and is a past president of the council.
Prior to his stint at Palmer, Dr. McDonald served as the dean of chiropractic and then executive vice president of New York Chiropractic College from 2001 to 2006. Before working at NYCC, he was a faculty member and administrator at Palmer from 1990 to 1999. He began his chiropractic career in 1982 and was co-owner of a multi-disciplinary rehabilitation clinic in Eureka, Montana until 1990.
Dr. McDonald has taught extensively in chiropractic post-graduate programs, and spoken at a variety of educational and research conferences. Additionally, he has published several papers on rehabilitation, quality assurance and chiropractic education.

Dr. Louis Sportelli received the Lee-Homewood Chiropractic Heritage Award during the annual conference of the Association for the History of Chiropractic (AHC). During his nearly 60-year career, Dr. Sportelli has embodied the spirit of the award, given to “living individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the chiropractic profession.”
Presently there is no consensus on the best treatment for Achilles tendon rupture; and its management is still controversial. The treatment options are conservative treatment and surgical repair. With either treatment, be it conservative or surgical, Achilles tendon tears necessitate prolonged recovery and rehabilitative management.
