Chinese American Cultural Bridge Center (CACBC), a nonprofit cultural exchange organization, is arranging a 12-day "Ancient Healing Arts of China" tour for chiropractors and other healing arts professionals. Participants will visit five cities: Beijing, Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Shanghai, all-important centers of Chinese medical education.
Rebecca Ji, executive director and founder of CACBC, has been creating special cultural exchange and educational travel programs to China for 18 years, since China first opened its doors to the world. This is the first time she has organized a Chinese traditional medicine tour.
"This is a rare opportunity for healing arts professionals to learn about acupuncture, herbal medicine, reflexology, qigong healing and other treatments at the source, as well as meet their professional peers in China," she said.
The idea for the tour grew out of Rebecca's personal experience with Chinese medicine. "I have benefited from Chinese medicine my whole life. I come from a family that has practiced traditional medicine for generations. Both of my grandfathers and my uncle and aunt were all respected traditional doctors.
"I have lived in the U.S for 21 years and I'm well-aware of the miracles of modern Western medicine and surgery. I believe these treatments are too radical and often unnecessary; they should be reserved for only for the most serious medical conditions. For chronic health conditions, common illnesses and pain, I always turn to Chinese medicine first. The remedies are simple, natural, powerfully effective and very inexpensive.
"Interestingly, after 5,000 years of evolution, Chinese medicine still continues to progress. Today there are hundreds of new products that combine traditional medicine with modern technology. Every time I go to China I bring home the latest health 'kits,' from herbal remedies to electronic pain relievers and acupuncture machines."
The tour will be enhanced with visits to ancient palaces, temples, gardens and other historic sites; plus, participants will enjoy epicurean dining, live entertainment and shopping excursions. They will also have the opportunity to attend the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, which is expected to attract over 70 million visitors from around the world.
